Man of the Match: Andrea Pirlo Croatia gave the Italian far too much space on the ball, enabling him to showcase his array of passing. He put his side in front with a lovely free-kick and deserved to be on the winning side.
Italy verdict: Italy were superb in the first half and should have been more than one goal in front, but they struggled a little in the second half as Croatia came out with a more positive approach. Wasteful in front of goal, they may rue dropping two points in this game come Monday night.
Croatia verdict: They showed great desire and determination after the break to get back into the game after looking all at sea in the first half. They showed they can be a danger for most teams when they push forward.
Could do better: Giorgio Chiellini The centre-back was totally out of position for the cross which led to the equaliser, caught back-tracking and leaving Mario Mandzukic in acres of space.
Stat attack: Croatia have lost just one of their last seven meetings against Italy, winning three.
